I have always had an interest in art, all kinds of art, even as a small child. However, the small town schools I attended did not offer art courses. Most of my art education has been self-taught. In 1981 while living in Houston, Texas, I took a junior college class in stained glass and that was the beginning of a wonderful journey. Windows for my home and gifts for friends and family were soon made and then I received requests from others which turned my hobby into a business. Relocating to Galesburg, Illinois five years later, I set up a studio in a small porch. I worked in this studio for 16 years until my business grew again requiring a larger more comfortable art studio. In 2007, I moved into a commercial building next door to the Galesburg Civic Art Center at 108 E. Main Street in Galesburg, Illinois. I have been in this location for 6 years now.
Thus far, I have made custom stained glass windows and lamps for private homes and businesses in Galesburg and the surrounding communities in Peoria, Rockford, and Chicago, Illinois. My inspiration often has been in nature and the old masters I have studied over the years such as Tiffany, Lafarge, and Frank Lloyd Wright. I have restored many old windows dating back one hundred years old from private homes and churches in the Galesburg, IL area. Saving these old windows from being destroyed is a great joy. Recently on a stained glass cruise to Alaska and touring the Seattle/Tacoma area in Washington state, Dale Chihuly’s work has influenced my interest in hot glass. I have added more space to my studio and now I can work in fused glass. It has added a new dimension to my stained glass windows and lamps. I offer classes in both copper foil and lead methods of creating stained glass windows and now I offer fused glass teachings to my students as well. Jokingly, I tell my friends and family I have retired into the stained glass business. It is a great joy to be able to do what I love every day and my customers are wonderful people.
